You’ll need a Nevada registered agent—previously called a Nevada resident agent—if you’re operating any legal business entity within the Silver State. This includes domestic business entities like Nevada corporations and Nevada LLCs as well as foreign (out-of-state) business entities who want to apply for qualification to do business in Nevada.

Your registered agent’s name and address must be listed on your formation paperwork if you’re creating a domestic entity and on your qualification paperwork if you’re registering a foreign entity.

A Nevada registered agent is a person or company that you appoint to accept legal notices (such as subpeonas or summons) from the state on behalf of your business. Nevada registered agents must have a physical address in the state where they are available during normal business hours to accept service of process and other official correspondence.

You must designate your registered agent before you form your company because you’re required to list your agent’s name and address on your company formation paperwork. If you don’t list an agent, the state will reject your application.

Your registered agent isn’t responsible for filing your formation paperwork and won’t automatically file your documents for you. However, if you are using a registered agent service, like us, you can usually hire your registered agent to take on this task.
